AN ONLINE FORUM/PRINTED NEWSPAPER IS LAUNCHED FOR FRELIGHSBURG, QUÉBEC!

The 1st edition of ForumFrelighsburg.com printed and distributed to all households June 18/09.

Frelighsburg residents know how difficult it is to get media coverage for local stories, or even to get a Letter to the Editor published or their garage sale announced in the Granby and Cowansville papers.

More importantly, there are very few ways for urgent local news to circulate in Frelighsburg, besides the occasional bulletin from Town Hall. Most people avoid the first-Monday-of-the-month town meetings.

In fact, it is shocking that many Frelighsburg citizens are not aware of some of the important developments that were discussed at recent town meetings:

[1] the village's sole bridge to be demolished and rebuilt starting Sept. 15, 2009 in the middle of the apple and tourism season

[2] the town's main streets to be dug up this fall for a major sewer project (start dates have varied)

[3] a large "roseaux" sewage-treatment facility to be installed behind the Catholic Church property

[4] the need for an expensive purification facility for the new water supply that was recently placed in the flood plain

[5] village taxes to rise steeply to pay for the town's portion of all this (total cost of projects said to be over $5 million)

[6] a 100m (328 feet, or 32 storey!) cell tower to be erected by Videotron this year on ch. Verger Modèle

[7] the opportunity coming up for village taxpayers to sign the register to force a referendum on the borrowing

[8] municipal elections coming up in the autumn...

So we invented ForumFrelighsburg.com! As explained at the bottom of this page, the mission of ForumFrelighsburg.com is to provide a timely and convenient source of information for local residents, and to give them a public forum where ideas can be presented and discussed in a polite and constructive fashion.

There is no cost for this service, although a small fee for classified ads and advertising will be introduced in the future. We will publish your text if it is considered timely and appropriate for this publication.
